On October 17, the 2nd Hebei Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Seminar was held at the auditorium of North China Electric Power University (Baoding Campus). Hosted by the Hebei Hydrogen Energy Society and organized by North China Electric Power University, the seminar was themed "Synergy Between Electricity and Hydrogen: Powering the Future." Dingzhou Risun Hydrogen Energy, a member of the Society, was invited to participate. Wu Likun, Manager of the company’s Planning and Development Department, attended the Hebei Science & Technology Exchange. It is a roundtable salon for young professionals, where he shared the company’s practical experiences and insights regarding cross-industry integration, the alignment of hydrogen production with end-use demand, and large-scale, cross-regional hydrogen supply.
As a significant industry event in Hebei’s hydrogen sector—marking the lead-up to the "15th Five-Year Plan" period—the seminar featured an opening ceremony, specialized academic presentations, the unveiling of new databases, a roundtable salon, and a tour of the Yanzhao Power Laboratory. During the opening ceremony, the Hebei Hydrogen Energy Society’s local office was officially inaugurated, and both the Hebei Hydrogen Energy Enterprise Database and North China Electric Power University’s "Digital Hydrogen" database were launched. A series of academic presentations focused on cutting-edge technologies—such as electrolytic hydrogen production, biomass-based hydrogen production, solid-state hydrogen storage, key materials for hydrogen-to-electricity conversion, hydrogen-blended natural gas, and hydrogen-related metrology and testing—providing a high-level platform for collaboration between industry, academia, research, and end-users.
Leveraging its industrial base in Dingzhou, local hydrogen enterprise Dingzhou Risun Hydrogen Energy has established a core business model centered on the large-scale production of industrial by-product hydrogen, alongside specialized liquid hydrogen storage and transportation. The company is simultaneously advancing operations in water electrolysis equipment and liquid hydrogen logistics, creating an integrated value chain that spans production, storage, transportation, refueling, and end-use. By utilizing its existing chemical industry infrastructure, the company ensures a stable supply of high-purity, low-cost industrial by-product hydrogen, providing a reliable solution for regional hydrogen demand.
Regarding the utilization of hydrogen sources and the alignment of supply with demand, Wu Likun noted that Dingzhou Risun Hydrogen Energy adheres to a strategy characterized by categorized matching, a balance between long-term and short-term requirements, and precise, targeted integration. Industrial by-product hydrogen currently serves as a mature, cost-effective, and scalable source of hydrogen, characterized by ample production capacity and stable quality. At present, it is primarily supplied in the form of high-pressure gaseous hydrogen to meet industrial demand in Dingzhou and the surrounding Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, as well as to fuel heavy-duty hydrogen-powered trucks—a model that ensures production and consumption occur in close proximity. To address the need for long-distance, large-scale, cross-regional hydrogen supply, the company has leveraged its 5-ton-per-day liquid hydrogen demonstration project in Dingzhou. By establishing a cross-regional transport route for civilian-grade liquid hydrogen from Dingzhou to Tianjin, the company has extended its supply radius from under 200 kilometers to over 700 kilometers, marking a transition from localized supply to large-scale, cross-regional distribution.
Regarding the practical challenges facing the large-scale, cross-regional development of the hydrogen energy industry, Wu Likun notes that the current bottleneck does not lie in hydrogen production capacity. Instead, it centers on three key areas: supporting infrastructure for storage and transport, the standardization system, and business models. High-end equipment for liquid hydrogen storage and transport remains largely in the demonstration phase; approval processes for cross-regional transport and hydrogen refueling infrastructure require simplification; industry-wide standards need further refinement; and coordination mechanisms between upstream and downstream supply and demand remain underdeveloped. These factors drive up the total cost across the entire value chain and hinder the cross-sector integration and large-scale deployment of hydrogen energy. Moving forward, Risun Hydrogen Energy intends to deepen its involvement in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei hydrogen supply chain. Using the Dingzhou liquid hydrogen base as a strategic anchor, the company aims to address gaps in storage and transport, foster a seamless cycle between upstream and downstream sectors, and contribute to the high-quality, large-scale development of the hydrogen energy industry in Hebei Province.
This seminar brought together industry experts and corporate representatives for in-depth discussions on industrial trends, technological innovation, and regional collaboration. The event provided robust support for Hebei Province as it seeks to seize opportunities in the hydrogen energy sector, drive technological innovation, and facilitate the practical implementation of industrial projects. Rooted in Hebei, Dingzhou Risun Hydrogen Energy will continue to leverage its practical experience across the industrial chain and actively participate in industry-wide collaboration, contributing to Hebei’s transformation into a powerhouse for new energy.
