The national standard GB/T 24212-2025 for “Methylnaphthalene Oil,” approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China), has been officially released and will take effect on August 1, 2025. Xingtai Risun Coal Chemical Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Xingtai Risun”), a subsidiary of Risun Group, was invited to participate in the drafting of this standard and played an instrumental role in its development.
The GB/T 24212-2025 standard was overseen by the National Technical Committee for Coal Chemical Standardization. The drafting team comprised Baowu Carbon Technology Co., Ltd., Xingtai Risun Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., Ansteel Group Beijing Research Institute Co., Ltd., and the Metallurgical Industry Information Standards Research Institute. Among the 12 principal drafters, five were from Risun.
In April 2024, the Subcommittee on Coking Chemistry convened a standard review meeting in Shanghai. During the session, Xingtai Risun presented key performance data and operational insights from its methylnaphthalene oil production line. These contributions informed the revision of critical indicators in the new standard. Following thorough expert review and discussion, Risun’s deep-processing capabilities and product quality were widely recognized as a benchmark, forming a core reference for the GB/T 24212-2025 standard.
Compared to the previous GB/T 24212-2009 version, which featured limited technical parameters, the updated GB/T 24212-2025 standard introduces a more comprehensive framework. It categorizes methylnaphthalene oil by application—benzene washing, processing, and blending—and specifies inspection protocols, packaging, labeling, transportation, storage, and certification requirements. The standard applies to methylnaphthalene oil fractions derived from high-temperature coal tar distillation, with clearer definitions and broader market applicability.
As the world’s largest independent coke producer and supplier, the leading global processor of crude benzene, the second-largest processor of high-temperature coal tar, and a top global producer of caprolactam, Risun Group has consistently contributed to national and industry standards. Its involvement reflects both its responsibility as a leading enterprise and its commitment to advancing industry norms and sustainable development. By sharing the “Risun Model,” the Group integrates its technical expertise and operational experience into regulatory frameworks, promoting industry health while securing long-term strategic advantages.
Xingtai Risun’s participation in the formulation and implementation of GB/T 24212-2025 delivers multiple strategic benefits:
Product Positioning & Market Advantage: The elevated standard enables Risun to refine product positioning, optimize operations, and strengthen market competitiveness.
Technical Innovation & Safety Compliance: Key quality control parameters such as phenol content and viscosity were added, with testing methods aligned to the GB/T 24206–24209 series. Safety protocols now include leak management and personal protection requirements, reinforcing Risun’s leadership in safety, environmental protection, and innovation.
Industry Influence: Risun’s proposals for optimizing methylnaphthalene oil specifications were highly endorsed and incorporated, enhancing its influence and authority in the coal chemical sector.
Market Regulation & Competitive Edge: The classification of methylnaphthalene oil by use, along with clear benchmarks for density and methylnaphthalene (α+β) content, helps regulate the market, eliminate substandard producers, and raise industry entry thresholds—favoring large-scale, high-quality enterprises like Risun.
Xingtai Risun’s active role in drafting GB/T 24212-2025 not only contributes to the advancement of methylnaphthalene oil quality and industry standards but also lays a solid foundation for expanding product reach, strengthening customer trust, and reinforcing its leadership in technology and industry development.
